Um rancho erguido para abrigar tropeiros e viajantes na primeira metade do s\u00e9culo XVIII deu origem ao pequeno povoado de Laje. Em 1911 o povoado ganhou sua autonomia como munic\u00edpio, recebendo o nome atual \u2013 Resende Costa (uma homenagem aos inconfidentes \u201cpai e filho\u201d que ali viveram).<\/p>\n

A Capela de Nossa Senhora da Penha de Fran\u00e7a foi erguida em 1749 e, em torno dela, foram constru\u00eddas oito casas para abrigar as primeiras fam\u00edlias que se estabeleceram na regi\u00e3o, entre elas a do inconfidente Jos\u00e9 de Resende Costa.<\/p>\n

\"\"A atividade econ\u00f4mica desenvolveu-se a partir da produ\u00e7\u00e3o de a\u00e7\u00facar, manteiga, aguardente, cal\u00e7ados e arreios.<\/p>\n

Hoje a cidade vive quase somente do artesanato t\u00eaxtil, confeccionando colchas, tapetes, almofadas, cortinas e outros artigos para casa em teares manuais.<\/p>\n

Ao entrar em Resende Costa, o visitante se depara com um bonito colorido nas janelas das casas e nas portas do com\u00e9rcio. S\u00e3o as cores do seu not\u00e1vel artesanato t\u00eaxtil. A cidade transpira as t\u00e9cnicas de trabalho no tear trazidas para a col\u00f4nia pelos portugueses.<\/p>\n

A arte do tear est\u00e1 bem preservada em Resende Costa, que se tornou importante para sua economia, deixando de ser uma atividade feminina para envolver fam\u00edlias inteiras.<\/p>\n
